ERMA FIRST Contributes to the SEASTARS Horizon Europe Project for Maritime Decarbonization

The SEASTARS (Sustainable Emission Abatement Strategies & Technologies for Advanced Revolution Ships) project, funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme, brings together 16 partners from across Europe with the objective of advancing the decarbonization of maritime transport.

The project aims to achieve up to 30% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction by 2030 through the development of eight vessel designs, including both retrofit and newbuild applications across inland, short-sea, and deep-sea shipping sectors.

SEASTARS integrates a broad range of innovative technologies, including energy-efficiency solutions, advanced emissions reduction systems, fuel cells, biofuels, wind-assisted propulsion, air lubrication technologies, solar panels, and other sustainable maritime solutions. The initiative also seeks to establish a modular and scalable roadmap for the practical decarbonization of commercial fleets.

As a key contributor to the project, ERMA FIRST will provide expertise in several strategic areas, including:

• Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) systems for clean shore power (“cold ironing”) through the ERMA FIRST BLUE CONNECT System
• Energy Saving Devices (ESDs) through the ERMA FIRST FLEXCAP
• Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) solutions through the ERMA FIRST CARBON FIT system

Through its participation in SEASTARS, ERMA FIRST reinforces its commitment to supporting the transition toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient maritime industry.
